Clutch line, replacement

Background

A new clutch line with a "pipe loop," which absorbs pressure shocks in the hydraulic system, is now available as a replacement part. This repair will help minimize vibrations felt in the clutch pedal. This Service Bulletin describes how to replace the clutch line between the clutch master and clutch slave cylinder.

Affected vehicles

Materials

Preparations 1

Pinch the hose between the brake fluid reservoir and the master cylinder using hose crimp pliers (1).

Remove.

- the air cleaner (ACL) housing

- the clutch line from the adapter on the clutch slave cylinder, after removing its retaining clip (2)

- the clutch line from the angled connection (3) on the master cylinder in the same way.

Replacing the clutch line 2

Remove the clutch line from the holder on the side member. Remove the clutch line. Install the new clutch line according to previous routing.

Finishing work 3

Install:

- the clutch line to the angled connection on the master cylinder and its retaining clip.

- the clutch line to the adapter on the clutch slave cylinder and its retaining clip.

Check that the loop on the clutch line does not lie against the cable harness (see the arrow). If necessary make adjustments by carefully bending the clutch line out of the way.

Ensure that the loop is horizontal so that there are no air pockets in the clutch line.

Bleed the clutch.

Install the air cleaner (ACL) housing.

Check the level in the brake fluid reservoir. When topping up, use Volvo brake fluid DOT4+.

Checking interference with the weight on the gear selector arm 4

Note!
Applies if the car has a weight (1) on the gear selector arm.

Check that there is no conflict between the loop in the clutch line (2) and the weight (1).

Loop position 5

NOTE:
The loop must be horizontal and be positioned below the weight. See the illustration for correct installation.
