Installing Shims

Introduction, installing shims
A kit with a new type of shim has been developed for the rear brake calipers. The kit P/N is 272272-6 (kit with 4 shims).

NOTE: Kit 272272-6 must not be installed in cars with brake caliper 3524365-8 and 3524366-6. The piston has a "step" (lowered 180 degrees) on the mating surface with the brake pad.

Removing the rear wheels
Remove the rear wheels.

Removing the retainer spring







- Push out the split pins with a 3 mm drift.
- Pull out retaining spring.

Removing the brake pads







- Remove the brake pads and shims.
- Use puller 999 2917 if the brake pads will not come out easily.

Cleaning and inspection
- Clean the brake pad contact surfaces in brake caliper.
- Check the piston dirt guard.
- If the dirt guard looks worn, replace it as a precautionary measure.
- If the dirt guard is damaged, overhaul the brake caliper.







- Press back the pistons with a pipe wrench or tool 999 2809. Take care not to damage the dirt guard.
- Check that dirt guard is in position properly.

Installing shims







- Grease shim on both sides with a thin layer of silicone grease, PN 1161325-4.
- The new type of shim has a notch in the edge. The shim must be installed in the brake caliper with the notch down as illustrated.

Installing brake pads

Install:







- brake pads
- one split pin and retaining spring first, then the other split pin.
