Checking For Noise From the Starter Motor

Checking for noise from the starter motor

Checking for noise
Check for noise from the starter motor when a start is attempted. Only an "engagement sound" should be heard.
Noise can come from the starter mechanism, the electric motor and the bearing as well as from the starter collar and carrier.
When start attempts are stopped the starter motor should stop immediately without any noise.
In the event of noise, the starter motor or the starter collar or carrier should be replaced.
Remedy as necessary.
