Checking drive, backrest

Conditions
To carry out this fault-tracing the control panel must be fault-free.

Has fault-tracing been carried out on the control panel?

Yes - Checking activation

No - Fault-tracing information
Carry out fault-tracing on the control panel according to the table of symptoms.

Continue carrying out fault-tracing on the control panel.


Continue - ANOTHER TEST

Checking activation




- Ignition off.
Adjust the seat backrest backward and forward with the control button.

Does the backrest move forward and backward?

Yes - No Fault Found

No - Checking the control module

- Ignition off.
- Remove the seat from the car according to Lifting the power seat in and out Lifting the Power Seat In and Out.
- Connect wiring to the seat.
Connect a voltmeter between ground and the gray 14-pin connector terminal B:1 for adjusting the backrest forward and B:2 for adjusting the backrest backward.
Adjust the seat backrest backward and forward with the control button.









The voltmeter should read battery voltage when the function is activated.

OK - Checking the engine

Not OK - Replacing the component

Replacing the component
Try a new control module according to Control module Control Module.

- Ignition off.
- Wiring according to connected.
- Disconnect drive shaft from motor 2 according to Replacing the backrest motor and potentiometer Replacing the Backrest Motor and Potentiometer.
Activate motor 2 using the control button for the backrest.

Does the motor function?

Yes - Checking backrest mounting

No - Replacing the component

Try a new motor according to Replacing the backrest motor and potentiometer Replacing the Backrest Motor and Potentiometer.

Continue - Verification

- Ignition off.
- Wiring according to connected.
- Disconnect drive shaft from the motor according to: Replacing the backrest motor and potentiometer Replacing the Backrest Motor and Potentiometer.
- Reinstall the shaft in the backrest mounting.
Rotate the drive shaft by hand 4 turns.
If the shaft rotates with the normal torque the backrest mounting is OK.

Does the shaft rotate with the normal torque?

OK - Checking component

Not OK - Replacing the component

Try a new backrest according to Backrest mounting Backrest Mounting.

- Ignition off.
- Check the motor 2 connector for contact resistance and oxidation according to Checking wiring and terminals. Permanent fault Checking Wiring and Terminals. Permanent Fault

Hint: After carrying out the repair, check that the fault has been remedied as follows:








- Ignition OFF.
- Reinstall components, connectors etc.
Operate backrest forward/backward using the control button.

Does the backrest operate in both directions?

Yes - VERIFIED

No - VERIFICATION FAILED

The fault should have been detected and remedied. As this is not the case fault-tracing has failed.
Exit fault-tracing for this diagnostic trouble code (DTC) or make another attempt.
