- Ignition on.
- Trunk lid/tailgate closed.
Read off the tailgate switch status.
The value should be high when the tailgate is closed.
Is the value HIGH?
Yes - No Fault Found
No - Checking for a short-circuit

Check the cable between VGLA control module #A19 and trunk lid/tailgate lock unit terminal 1 for a short-circuit to ground according to Checking wiring and terminals. Permanent fault Checking Wiring and Terminals. Permanent Fault.
Were any faults found in the cables?
Yes - Verification
No - Replacing component

Replace the trunk lid lock unit according to Replacing the lock unit on the tailgate, electric switch or motor (2/4-door). Service and Repair
Select "Continue" when this has been done.

Hint: After carrying out the repair check that the fault has been remedied as follows:
- Ignition off.
- Reconnect connectors, reinstall components.
- Ignition on.
- Trunk lid/tailgate closed.
Read status for the door switch in the tailgate/trunk lid.
The value should be HIGH when the trunk lid/tailgate is closed.
Is the value HIGH?
Yes - FAULT FOUND
