Viscous Coupling: Service and Repair

Bearing viscous coupling, replacing

Special tools: 999 1801, 999 2412, 999 2842, 999 5652, 999 5759, 999 2861, 999 5388

Note: Preparations for removal of the viscous coupling housing.

Removal
Removing the screw for holding the flange to the viscous coupling





Use counterhold 999 5652 with adapter 999 5759.

Mark up the position of the coupling and flange.

Use a marker pen.

Press and tap out the viscous coupling from the flange. Take care not to damage the viscous coupling by letting it fall.

Removing the flange from the bearing





Support the viscous coupling housing on tool 999 2861. Press out the flange. Use drift 999 5388 with shaft 999 1801 or a suitable drift.

Removing the bearing from the viscous coupling housing





Use drift 999 2842.

Installation

Installing the bearing in the viscous coupling housing
Use drift 999 2412.





Installing the viscous coupling housing and bearing onto the flange





Use drift 999 2412.

Installing the viscous coupling into the viscous coupling housing





Install the viscous coupling as marked.

Note: Check that the loose washer is in place.





Use a new screw. Tighten to 50 Nm. Use counterhold 999 5652 with adapter 999 5759.
