CD changer, 10-CD
Note! This accessory requires software unique to the car.
Note!
- Points 1-35 apply to cars without RTI

Points 1-35 apply to cars without RTI Preparations
- Move the left front seat to its rearmost position.
- Turn the ignition key to position 0
- Applies to cars with manual gearboxes: Remove the ignition key
- Disconnect the battery negative lead.
Note! Wait at least five minutes before disconnecting the connectors or removing other electrical equipment.
Illustration A applies to cars up to and including model year -2004 (V70 CH -458999, XC70 CH -172999)
- Remove the panel in front of the gear selector lever. Pry off the panel using a plastic weatherstrip tool
- Move the gear selector lever to the rearmost position.
Illustration B applies to cars from model year 2005- (V70 CH 459000-, XC70 CH 173000-)
- Detach the rear edge of the gear selector lever cover together with the boot until the two clips release. Use a plastic weatherstrip tool. Pull the panel up until the four clips at the sides release.
Illustration A applies to cars up to and including model year -2004 (V70 CH -458999, XC70 CH -172999)
- Remove the two screws from the dashboard environment panel.
Illustration B applies to cars from model year 2005- (V70 CH 459000-, XC70 CH 173000-)
- Apply the handbrake. Move the gear selector backwards
- Turn the panel to the left to facilitate access
- Remove the two screws holding the bracket with the radio and the dashboard environment panel in the centre console.
Illustration A applies to cars up to and including model year -2004 (V70 CH -458999, XC70 CH -172999)
- Angle the dashboard environment panel outwards so that it is possible to grasp the side of the panel using a couple of fingers
- Remove the dashboard environment panel. Pull the dashboard environment panel downwards while maintaining the same angle. Some force is required because the panel is tightly installed
- Disconnect the connectors on the reverse of the dashboard environment panel. Place the dashboard environment panel to one side.
Note! If any of the outer hooks break off, these must be repaired. See the section dealing with the dashboard.
Illustration B applies to cars from model year 2005- (V70 CH 459000-, XC70 CH 173000-)
- Remove the bracket with dashboard environment panel from the centre console: Pull the lower edge out and downwards until it releases from the mounting at the upper edge. Then fold backwards.
Note! Do not damage the removed components and surrounding panels.
If necessary, remove the panel around the gear selector lever to gain more space. The panel is secured by four catches on the under side at the boot
- Disconnect the connectors from the radio and dashboard environment panel. Also disconnect the connector from the carphone keypad if applicable. Place the unit to one side.
Applies to cars up to and including model year -2004 (V70 CH -458999, XC70 CH -172999)
- Remove the screws from the bracket for the radio
- Pull out the bracket with the radio. Pull the lower corner while pressing downwards
- Disconnect the connectors from the radio. Also disconnect the connectors from the carphone keypad if applicable. Remove the bracket and radio.
Applies to all models
- Remove the left-hand side panel (1) from the centre console. First turn the clip. Pull the panel outwards and backwards
- Remove the sill trim panel (2) at the left front door
- Remove the covers (3). Remove the screws (4).
- Tip the left-hand front seat backwards
- Push the floor carpet to one side so that the air ducts (1) are accessible.
- Fold the left rear seat cushion (1) and backrest (2) forward.
- Pull the upper edges of the left-hand side cushion backwards and lift the cushion. Remove the cushion.
- Remove the sill trim panel from the left-hand rear door.
- Remove the two floor hatches in the cargo compartment.
- Remove the storage box from under the rear floor hatch by turning the clip on the left and right-hand sides 90°. Lift out the box.
- Remove the left-hand folding panel in the cargo compartment. The panel will not be used again. There is a new panel in the kit.
- Remove the left-hand front side panel. First remove the cover and the screw from the front edge
- Pull the top of the panel out until the clips release
- Fold the panel inwards. Lift the panel out. The panel will not be used again. There is a new panel in the kit.
- Cut off the protruding plastic flange. Use a hacksaw. See the illustration.
Cable routing
- Route the DIN cable for the CD changer up between the front air duct (1) and the bulkhead stay (2)
- Route the cable through the radio compartment
- Secure the cable in the stay. Use a tie strap (3)
- Route the cable above and along the front air duct to the seat mounting member (4)
- Clamp the cable to the existing cable harness (5).
- Continue to route the DIN cable under the carpet along the door sills to the rear seat
- Install the protective caps on the lugs (1) for the cable ducts.
Illustration A applies to cars up to and including model year -2004 (V70 CH -458999, XC70 CH -172999)
- Take the power supply cable for the CD changer from the kit. Connect the ground lead to the front ground terminal (1) in the rear seat. Tighten to 10 Nm (7 lbf.ft.)
- Route the DIN cable and the power supply cable to the right-hand side of the air duct (2), under the wiring. Continue up along the left-hand side of the wheel arch and to the left-hand side of the rear crossmember. See the illustration.
Illustration B applies to cars from model year 2005- (V70 CH 459000-, XC70 CH 173000-)
- Route the DIN cable (1) to the right-hand side of the air duct (2), under the wiring. Continue up along the left-hand side of the wheel arch and to the left-hand side of the rear crossmember.
Applies to cars from model year 2005- (V70 CH 459000-, XC70 CH 173000-)
- Take the cable (1) for power supply from the kit. Connect the ground lead to the existing ground terminal behind the battery. Tighten the screw. Tighten to 10 Nm (7 lbf.ft.). Position the red/white (R/W) single cables (2) by the rear fuse holder
- Route the cable harness on the left-hand side of the cable duct. The cable with the blue connector (3) must be routed to the pre-routed connector for the DIN cable
- Roll up the excess cable. Clamp the excess cable.
Connection in the fuse holder
Applies to cars up to and including model year -2004 (V70 CH -458999, XC70 CH -172999)
- Remove the fuse holder. Open the lock (1) on the top of the fuse holder. Fold the fusebox holder forward. Lift it out of the mountings (2).
- Position the red/white (R/W) single cable with the smaller cable terminal facing backwards along the cable. Insulate the cable. Secure the cable using the foam tape from the kit. It must not come into contact with the chassis.
- Connect the routed red/white cable to the outer terminal (1) on the reverse of fuse socket 10 on the fuse holder: Remove the decal (2). Carefully pry up the red secondary lock on the face in the end nearest position 10. At the same time press the cable into position.
Hint: If there is a problem inserting the cable, the fuses on the outer side must be removed in order to open the red secondary locking further.
- Reinstall the decal
- Install a 10A fuse in fuse socket 10 on the fuse holder.
