Roof Box
Roof Box
CAUTION: Check that the load carrier is securely mounted on the roof and the box securely fixed to the load carrier.
NOTE: Be aware of the changed height and driving characteristics of the car with load carriers and box. Always secure loads. Check that the box is properly locked and the key removed before traveling. The total roof load capacity of the car must not be exceeded. See the car instruction book.
Highest permitted load = load carrier weight + box weight + load weight. For safety the car should not be driven at top speed. The speed should be adjusted to the load transported and of course to appropriate speed limits. Remember the following with the box mounted:- The increased height of the car. - Wind noise may occur. These installation instructions should be stored with the car handbook. Damage to the car and surroundings may occur if the instructions are not followed.
Installing the roof box
Opening the roof box
- Unlock and turn the handle downwards to open the roof box.
Closing the roof box
- Press the cover down completely and turn the handle to the upper position. Press the handle inwards and lock.
- Place the roof box on the load carriers parallel to the car. Ensure that neither the roof box or the load carrier obstruct the tailgate.
NOTE: Applies to V40: The roof box can be used together with the roof antenna and roof spoiler. It is necessary, however, to bend the roof antenna and the tailgate should be opened with care.
- When opening the box ensure that the opposite side is locked. The four moveable securing plates (A) in the bottom of the box should be moved so that they lie above the load carrier rails between the grommets (B) in each securing plate (A).
- Position the locking handle (C) in each securing plate in the vertical position. Insert the first U-bracket (D) upwards through the grommets (B).
- Press the center section of the securing plates downward, pressing against the indicated pressure point (K) beside the lock handle (C). Press the U-bracket (D) upwards until it is tight against the load carrier.
- Fold down the lock handle (C) to the horizontal position. This requires a force of approximately 50 N (11 lbf), there should be considerable tension.
If this is not the case the U-bracket installation must be repeated.
- Then fold the safety bracket (E) over the lock handle (C) until it snaps shut. If this cannot be done, check that the lock handle is snapped shut in the final position. Install the other three securing plates in the same way.
- Check that the box is securely fixed to the load carrier at regular intervals.
Installing ski holders/ski support
- Install the ski supports by sliding the clamp bolts into the roof box tensioner forks. Ensure that the catches are turned as illustrated.
- Install the ski holders on the catches and turn the clamp bolts to the locked position.
NOTE: The ski holder must be locked with clamp bolts.
- Use the straps supplied to secure the skis.
Transporting other goods
- Remove the ski holders by turning the clamp bolts to the open position. The clamp bolts are left in the roof box tensioner units.
- Use the straps supplied to secure the loads.
When loading the roof box distribute the load so that the cover can be properly closed.
Roof box may not be loaded with more than 75 kg (165 lbs). The load should be distributed as illustrated.
NOTE: Do not load car with more than the maximum roof load.
Removing the roof box
- Open the roof box and remove the load and ski holders. Fold down the safety bracket (E), open the locking handle (C) and fold it to the vertical position. Press down the center of the securing plate in the roof box with one hand. Press against the pressure points (K) beside the lock lever (C). At the same time pull the U bracket (D) down from the mounting unit (A) using the other hand.
