Signal Too High - Permanent Fault

Checking Component And Wiring

Check cable between engine control module (ECM) #B17 (#B27) and accelerator pedal (AP) position sensor #5 for a short-circuit to supply voltage according to Checking wiring and terminals. Permanent faults (under Related Tests and Information).

Remedy as necessary.

Other information:
- For connection of engine control module (ECM) breakout box, see Connecting the breakout box (under Scan Tool Connecting).
- To access/replace the accelerator pedal (AP) position sensor, see Replacing the accelerator pedal module.
- Accelerator pedal (AP) position sensor #5 transmits an analog signal that varies between approximately 0.45 V and approximately 5 V depending on accelerator pedal (AP) position.
- Accelerator pedal (AP) position sensor #6 is power supply (5 V)
- Accelerator pedal (AP) position sensor #4 is a signal ground.
- For information about signals on 5-cyl, see Signal Specification (under Diagnostic Parameters and Pinout Values).
- For information about signals on 6-cyl, see Signal Specification (under Diagnostic Parameters and Pinout Values).
