Signal Too High - Permanent Fault

Checking Component And Wiring

Check the brake pedal sensor resistance between #1 and #2, for resistance values see Component specifications.

Check cable between engine control module(ECM) #B16 and brake pedal sensor #1 for a short-circuit to supply voltage according to Checking wiring and terminals. Permanent faults (under Related Tests and Information). and an open-circuit according to Checking wiring and terminal, Permanent faults.

Check cable between #B4 and brake pedal sensor #2 for a short-circuit to supply voltage according to Checking wiring and terminals. Permanent faults (under Related Tests and Information) and an open-circuit according to Checking wiring and terminals. Permanent faults (under Related Tests and Information).

Remedy as necessary.

Other information
- To connect the breakout box, see Connecting the breakout box (under Scan Tool Connecting).
- To access/replace the mass air flow (MAF) sensor see Pedal sensor power brake booster, replacing.
- With the ignition on and brake pedal sensor connector disconnected, the voltage between clutch pedal position sensor #1 and ground should be approximately 5 V.
- When the clutch pedal position sensor connector is disconnected, the brake pedal sensor #4 should be connected to ground.
- For information about signals on 5-cylinder engines, see Signal Specification (under Diagnostic Parameters and Pinout Values).
- For information about signals on 6-cylinder engines, see Signal Specification (under Diagnostic Parameters and Pinout Values).
