Checking Transmission Rattle
Checking transmission rattle
Checking transmission rattle
Check whether the transmission is rattling as follows.
- Warm up the transmission before the test
- Check the level and type of transmission fluid
- Drive the car in first and second gears. Accelerate / decelerate between 1,000 and 2,500 rpm. Check for a grinding sound from the transmission
- Change into third on a slight incline at approximately 20% throttle. Check for a grinding sound from the transmission
- Compare with at least one other car of the same model.
The sound should disappear when the clutch is depressed if it is the transmission that is rattling. Remedy poor soundproofing around the steering column lead-in in the firewall.
If the car has a twin mass flywheel, remedy using the specific service solution.
Replace the transmission if necessary.
