Checking indicator lamps
- Ignition on.
- Switch on the headlamps.
- Set the instrument lighting rheostat to maximum.
Check whether the fog tail lamp, high beam and turn signal indicator lamps light.
Do the indicator lamps light?
Yes - Checking for an open-circuit
No - Connecting the breakout box

Yes - No Fault Found
No - Connecting the breakout box to the combined instrument panel

Connecting the breakout box to the combined instrument panel
- Ignition off.
- Expose combined instrument panel.
- Disconnect combined instrument panel.
- Check that the male and female terminals in the combined instrument panel and cable harness connectors are intact and secure and that the wiring to the female terminals is properly attached to the terminal.
- Check the terminals relevant to the diagnostic trouble code (DTC)/symptom especially well.
Connect adapter 981 3194 Replaced by 9511495 981 3194 Replaced by 951 1495 to combined instrument panel connectors A and B and connect the breakout box 981 3190 Replaced by 9511428 981 3190 Replaced by 951 1428 to adapter.

Checking ground terminals
- Ignition off.
- Switch off all equipment that takes power from the battery (courtesy lighting, radio etc).
Connect an ohmmeter between the battery negative terminal and:
#15 (#A15)
#17 (#A17) on the breakout box.
The ohmmeter should read approx. 0 ohms for all readings
OK - Return to the fault-tracing procedure where it was interrupted.
Not OK - Checking for an open-circuit

Check ground lead between central electrical unit and chassis for an open-circuit according to Checking wiring and terminals. Permanent fault Checking Wiring and Terminals. - Combined instrument disconnected
- Switch off all equipment that takes power from the battery (courtesy lighting, radio etc).
Connect an ohmmeter between the battery negative terminal and:

- Connect the combined instrument panel.
- Ignition on.
- Switch on the headlamps.
- Set the instrument lighting rheostat to maximum.
Connect a voltmeter between terminal 10 (#A10) and terminal 17 (#A17) on the breakout box.
The voltmeter should read approximately battery voltage.
OK - Replacing the component
