Windshield, replacing

Note! The illustrations in this service information are used for different model years and/or models. Some variation may occur. However, the essential information in the illustrations is always correct.

Note! The procedure refers to two different Volvo adhesive kits. The products in the kits must not be mixed. For further information, see Volvo Chemical catalogue.

Use special tools 951 2925 and 998 6030.






Removal

Preparatory work
Place the adhesive in the oven (applies when using adhesive kit 1161820).

Remove:
- the windshield washers and the cowl. See




- the moldings on the A-posts and the roof as illustrated




- the guide molding from the bottom edge.





Thread on both ends in the screwdriver.




Pull in both the wire ends for the sun visor.




Have tape ready to secure the wire. Feed the wire down in the left-hand corner, then around the entire window.

Hint: Mark with tape sideways so that the window is installed the same on both sides.




Pull in the excess wire towards the right-hand A-post.




Guide the wire up towards the windshield by pressing one or more nails (or an electricians screwdriver) in the adhesive.




Secure a winch on the windshield.
Secure the long wire to the winch.





Note! Protect the dashboard and panels using a plastic disc or similar.




Begin winching the wire in.

Warning! Use protective goggles.




Release the winch from the windshield. Pull out the lug (1) and move the winch.

Note! Hold the roll secure by hand so that the wire does not spin off. See illustration.




Keep an eye on the other end of the wire to ensure that it does not move.




Secure the winch (2) and winch in the wire.




Winch in the wire and move the winch as illustrated.




Winch in the wire again and move the winch as illustrated.




Close the hood and lift out the windshield.

Installation

Installing the windshield

Note! When bonding windshields, only Volvo's aftermarket adhesive is approved. This adhesive is continually tested to satisfy Volvo's demands on the vehicle in the aftermarket environment. See





Note! Check that the adhesive bead is firmly against the body, especially in the upper corners.

Cut off any adhesive residue.
Clean using Isopropanol.




Clean the new windshield using Isopropanol.




When using adhesive kit 1161693, see: Bonded window general, information Removal and Replacement.
Then continue with "Install".
When using adhesive kit 1161820.
Apply activator to existing adhesive beads, wipe dry.

Note! If any part of the frame has been painted, the painted surface must be primed using primer, P/N 1161824.




Apply activator to the windshield, wipe dry.








Apply primer, P/N 1161824.




Apply adhesive.
The adhesive bead must be 6 mm wide 12 mm high.

Note! Mount the windshield within 10 minutes.




Install the windshield.


Install:
- the guide molding at the lower edge
- the windshield washers and the cowl. See
- the moldings on the A-posts.

Note! Park the car on an even surface. Cure for three hours at a minimum temperature of +5°C otherwise apply extra heat.
