Checking Transmission Rattle

Checking transmission rattle

Checking transmission rattle
Check whether the transmission is rattling as follows.
- Start the engine and select a gear. Determine if the rattle occurs when the engine is started or stopped. The noise disappears when the clutch is depressed. Compare the noise with another car under the same conditions (same temperature in the transmission) to determine whether the noise is normal or not. It is especially obvious when the transmission is hot.
When the noise is abnormally loud the clutch or twin mass flywheel may be faulty. Remedy by replacing the twin mass flywheel and clutch.
Inform the customer that this is not a functional problem.
