Condition
The symptom occurs when the engine is idling.
The center of the primary shaft to the transmission and the center of the output shaft to the engine any be misaligned. There is a vibration in the transmission that sounds like a rattle. The noise disappears when the clutch is depressed.
Possible source
- The transmission is not centered with the engine. The transmission primary shaft and the engine crankshaft are not aligned
- Incorrectly installed, damaged or missing guide sleeves on the engine for the transmission.
Fault symptom[s]
- The noise can be heard when the car is stationary and idling. The noise disappears when the clutch is depressed.
