Removing the spring strut

Raise the car.





Remove:

^ the wheel

^ the clamp and the brake hose from the bracket the ABS cable from the bracket

^ the anti-roll bar link from the spring strut

^ the two screws for the wheel spindle

^ the wheel spindle from the spring strut

^ the three nuts. Remove the spring strut.

Use hydraulic piston 9512911 together with claw 9512914. Position the claws on the tool over as many spring coils as possible.

Compress:

^ the spring using the hydraulic piston. Ensure that the spring is correctly positioned in the claws the spring until it releases.

Hint:
Note the locations of the components. This will make reinstallation easier.

Remove:

^ the dust cover

^ the nut using socket 999 5500 and wrench 999 5758

^ the spring strut mounting

^ the bearing

^ the support plate

^ the spring

^ the bump stop and the dust boot.

Lubricate the bump stop using petroleum jelly. Install the bump stop in the dust boot.

Pull out the shock absorber rod completely.

Note!
The color code on the spring must be downwards towards the spring strut.

Install:

^ the bump stop and dust boot

^ the rubber liner on the underside

^ the spring strut through the spring

^ the rubber liner on the upper side

^ the upper spring seat

^ the support plate

^ the upper mounting for the spring strut

^ the nut. Finger tighten.

Install the upper spring seat so that the holes in both the spring seats line up.

Carefully release the spring. Check that the end of the spring is correctly positioned in the stop at the spring seats.

Use socket 999 5500 and wrench 999 5758. Tighten the nut. Tighten to 65 Nm.

Coat the bearing in grease.

Install the dust cover.

Remove the spring strut from the special tool.

Install:

^ the spring strut. Hand tighten the three nuts.

^ the two screws for the wheel spindle. Tighten to 90 Nm

^ the link for the anti-roll bar. Tighten to 45 Nm

^ the brake hose and the ABS cable in the bracket

^ the wheel

^ the three nuts. Tighten to 40 Nm.

Install the wheel.

Ensure that the brake disc and wheel rim mating surfaces are clean.

Lubricate the hub guide for the rims using installation paste (P/N 1161397).

Install the wheel. Hand tighten the nuts. Tighten crosswise. Tighten to 110 Nm When tightening using a pneumatic impact wrench, use torque socket 9512834-8 only. Post tighten the nuts using the hand tool.

Note!
The correct tightening torques and crosswise tightening are important to avoid stresses in the brake disc.

Install the hub cap.
