Knock Sensor, Replacing
REPLACEMENT OF KNOCK SENSOR
Removal of knock sensor
Remove
- the pipe to the control module cover
- inlet pipe between front plate and air filter
- wire clamp
- cooling fan relay Disconnect the two smaller contacts from the relay. Disconnect the connector to the right of the electric cooling fan relay, put aside the wiring.
Disconnect the connector on the fan shroud nearest the fan and battery. Then continue with the connector of the EVAP valve.
- the EVAP valve and its downward hose from the lower part of the fan shroud, put aside the cabling.
- the four screws holding the fan shroud upper edge
Disconnect the connector from the upper right corner of the fan shroud.
- bracket from the upper part of the fan shroud
- the rubber part of the charge air pipe between the throttle housing and the cooler
- the two plastic washers/spacers from the fan shroud
- the hose (large) from the induction pipe
- the hoses (small) from the induction pipe
Note! Mark the hoses (small) before undoing them from the induction pipe.
- the hoses (small) from the hose bracket on the engine block (front left) Disconnect the pressure and temperature sensor connectors on the charge air pipe leading to the throttle housing.
Undo the clamp on the charge air pipe at the throttle housing.
Force the charge air pipe and the cooler aside and, at the same time, pull the fan up.
- charge air pipe
- the knock sensors
- the cable tie on the wire bundle
Disconnect the connectors. Pull out the knock sensors between the engine block and starter motor.
Installation of knock sensor
Install new sensors with screws, tighten finger-tight
Pull the wires on the outside of the starter motor bracket and clamp.
Position the sensors (from the front and rear). Position of wire from sensor in cylinder 2 = 6 o'clock and from sensor in cylinder 4 = 3 o'clock.
Tighten the knock sensors to 20 Nm (14.75 ft. lbs.).
Press the knock sensor connectors together and check that the wires are correctly positioned. Clamp if necessary.
Install the charge air pipe. Ensure that the screw in the hose clamp is located between the block and the pipe, pointing towards the left and parallel with the engine block. Do not tighten any harder than is necessary to allow the pipe to rotate.
Force the charge air pipe and the cooler aside and, at the same time, push the fan down.
Position the wiring.
Install the rubber part of the charge air pipe between the throttle housing and the cooler. Tighten the clamp on the charge air pipe next to the throttle housing.
Connect the pressure and temperature sensor connectors on the charge air pipe leading to the throttle housing.
Install
- the hoses (small) to the hose bracket on the engine block (front left)
- the hoses (small) to the induction pipe in accordance with the marking
- the hose (large) to the induction pipe
- the two plastic washers/spacers to the fan shroud
- the four screws holding the fan shroud in the upper edge
Connect the connector to the upper right corner of the fan shroud.
- the pipe to the control module cover
- the EVAP valve and its downward hose to the lower part of the fan shroud Connect the connector to the EVAP valve and the connectors on the fan shroud (nearest the battery and fan).
- wire clamp
- the two smaller contacts to He relay
- cooling fall relay
- inlet pipe between front plate and air filter.
