Checking Fuel and Residual Pressures
Checking fuel pressure and residual pressure in the workshop
Choosing a method for taking a reading
It is possible to measure fuel pressure with the car stationary or while being driven. Residual pressure is measured with the car stationary.
For measurement while the car is being driven see Taking fuel pressure readings while driving the car Taking Fuel Pressure Readings While Driving the Car.
Continue - Measuring line pressure
-------------------------------------------------
Measuring line pressure
- Connect pressure gauge according to Fuel pressure gauge Fuel Pressure Gauge.
- Remove central electrical unit cover
- Remove fuel pump (FP) relay (terminal 103 in central electrical unit)
- Connect jumper cable across relay base terminals 1 and 3
- Switch on ignition, fuel pump should start
Read off line pressure from pressure gauge. The line pressure should be 375-395 kPa
If the fuel pressure is OK, check the residual pressure.
Remedy as necessary
Other information
- For the location of and to replace the fuel pump (FP), see Fuel pump, replacement Fuel Pump, Replacement.
- For the location of and to replace the fuel filter, see Fuel filter, replacement Removal and Replacement.
- To disconnect the pressure gauge, see Fuel pressure gauge Fuel Pressure Gauge.
Should the residual pressure be checked?
Yes - Checking residual pressure
No - DONE
-------------------------------------------------
Checking residual pressure
- Switch off the ignition
- Reset fuel pump (FP) relay
Line pressure must not fall below 200 kPa within 20 minutes of the fuel pump (FP) being shut-off.
Remedy as necessary
