Replacing sensor

Brake fluid level sensor
- Disconnect the connector.
- Unscrew the cover. The sensor is mounted in the cover
- Assemble in reverse order.
Fuel level sensor AWD
To replace the fuel level sensor AWD, see Fuel pump unit, replacing Fuel Pump Unit, Replacing.
Fuel level sensor 2WD
Note! A new type of fuel level sensor has been developed. Applies to all X70 and newer 850 variants according to chassis limits: 850 with Turbo 4-door chassis no. 131664-, 5-door chassis no. 037635- / 850 without Turbo 4-door chassis no. 143709-, 5-door chassis no. 048625-.

Removing covers and panels, applies to all 850 variants
Fold down the right backrest on the rear seat.
Remove:
- hatches and panels and the cargo compartment carpet
- the right wheel arch panel, in variants with a soft panel lift up the corner of the panel
- the two covers over the fuel level sensor and the fuel pump (FP).
Separating the connector
Disconnect the fuel level sensor connector and wiring.
Removing the fuel level sensor
Unscrew the plastic nut on the fuel level sensor. Use tool 999 5486 KEY 999 5486 Key. Only loosen the nut.
Lift up the fuel level sensor. Feed through the cable at the same time.
Remove the seal.
Note! Reinstall the nut on the tank sleeve, otherwise the sleeve may swell making it difficult to reinstall the nut later
- Check the function of the fuel level sensor.
Installation
Assemble in reverse order. Install a new rubber seal. Lubricate the upper section and inside lightly using petroleum jelly
Position the fuel level sensor so that the cable to the sensor is facing to the left.
Tighten the nut.
The fuel level sensor is not centered in the body panel
Preparations
If the nut for the level sensor is not centered in the hole in the body panel, the fuel tank must be slackened off and centered.
Adjusting the fuel tank
Raise the car.
Slacken off the fuel tank straps. Press the tank forward by hand as far as it will go.
Lower the car.
Further adjustment
If the fuel tank needs further adjustment, use the shaft of a hammer for example as a lever between the nut for the fuel pump unit and the body panel. Do not damage the nut or panel when levering!
Slacken off the nut. Remove the level sensor. See Removing the fuel level sensor.
Tightening the fuel tank
When work on the level sensor is finished, tighten the fuel tank straps.
Raise the car.
Press the fuel tank forwards so that the nut for the level sensor is centered in the hole in the body panel.
Tighten the fuel tank.
Lower the car.
Reset. See Removing covers and panels, applies to all 850 variants.
Engine coolant level sensor
Lift up the expansion tank and tip it to one side to access its underside.
Separate the connector.
Pull out and replace the engine coolant level sensor.
Assemble in reverse order.
Oil pressure sensor
The oil pressure sensor is located on the bottom edge of the engine between the dip stick and starter motor.
Carry out work with the car raised.
Remove the splash guard under the engine.
Disconnect the connector.
Screw out the sensor.
Assemble in reverse order.
Handbrake switch
Remove the centre console Center Console
Lift up carefully.
Remove the screw holding the switch.
Disconnect the connector and replace the switch.
Assemble in reverse order.
Outside temperature sensor
The temperature sensor is mounted on the spoiler under the front bumper.
Disconnect the sensor from its mounting.
Disconnect the connector and replace the sensor.
Assemble in reverse order.
Engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor
Drain off the coolant.
Remove the thermostat housing (2 TORX40-screws).
Separate the connector.
Release the terminal pins from connector (see the illustration) in order to thread the wiring through a ring spanner.
Remove and replace the temperature sensor.
Test the sensor:
Ignition-and fuel injection system.
Assemble in reverse order
Note! Do not forget to top up the coolant, and to run the engine to normal operating temperature and check the level.
