Auxiliary Cabin Heater Housing: Service and Repair






Replacing heat exchanger

Removing

Preparations
Move heater to service position according to Moving the heater to its service position Procedures.

Engine coolant hoses




Install hose clamps on both engine coolant hoses by the heat exchanger.

Connector, glow plug and inlet hose




Remove the fuel pump connector from the bracket and disconnect the connector.
Remove glow plug.
Disconnect inlet hose from heat exchanger bracket.

Components under the cover





Warning! Protective gloves and protective goggles should be used for the following operations because of the risk of fuel spillage.

Remove cover over coolant temperature sensor, overheat protection thermostat and fuel line quick-release connector.
Remove coolant temperature sensor and overheat protection thermostat holder.
Remove the coolant temperature sensor from the heat exchanger by pulling it straight out.
Disconnect the ground terminal on the heat exchanger.
Remove the outside temperature sensor from the heat exchanger.
Remove the holder for the quick-release connector between the fuel line and nozzle pipe.
Disconnect the quick-release connector between the fuel line and nozzle pipe.

Heat exchanger and fan shroud




Separate the heat exchanger from the fan shroud and combustion unit (3 screws).
Hang up the fan shroud on the heater bracket.
Disconnect the engine coolant hoses from the heat exchanger.
Remove heat exchanger.

Installing

Heat exchanger and glow plug




Transfer the fuel pump to the new heat exchanger.
Assemble the fan shroud and combustion unit with the heat exchanger.
Center socket for the glow plug in the flame shield with the mounting on the heat exchanger.

Install:
- glow plug in heat exchanger.

Note! If the glow plug can be screwed in by hand the glow plug socket in the flame shield has been centered correctly. Torque to 15 Nm.

- glow plug cable.
- cap over terminal.

Components under the cover





Install:
- heat exchanger ground lead
- coolant temperature sensor and overheat protection thermostat with holder.

Note! Check that the coolant temperature sensor and overheat protection thermostat holder is not in contact with wiring.

- quick-release fuel line connector holder.
- quick-release connector onto nozzle pipe and screw holder into place.
- cover over sensors and quick-release fuel line connector.
- inlet hose onto heat exchanger bracket.

Connectors




Connect fuel pump connector and install connector onto bracket.
Install outside temperature sensor onto bracket.

Engine coolant hoses
Connect engine coolant hoses to heat exchanger. Torque to 3 Nm .
Remove hose clamps.
Reinstall heater according to Moving the heater to its service position Procedures.
