Signal Too High

Signal too high

Checking the function of the oil temperature sensor

- Ignition on.
- Read off oil temperature.
Check that the temperature is within its permitted range.
Compare with the transmission temperature.

Note! The transmission temperature sensor is located inside the control unit and can be affected by the heat given off by the solenoids.

Is the transmission temperature within its permitted range?

Yes - Intermittent fault

No - Checking the oil temperature sensor

-------------------------------------------------

Checking the oil temperature sensor

- Ignition off.
- Check control module and transmission connector A for contact resistance and oxidation and remedy according to Checking wiring and terminals. Permanent fault Checking Wiring and Terminals. Permanent Fault.
- Reconnect control module and transmission connectors.
- Ignition on.
- Read off oil temperature.
Check that the temperature is within its permitted range.
Compare with the transmission temperature.
If the transmission temperature is within its permitted range the cause of the fault was contact resistance or oxidation in the control module or transmission connector.

Other information:
- To disconnect the control module, see Replacing the gearbox control module (TCM) Replacing the Gearbox Control Module (TCM).
- To disconnect transmission connector A, see Replacement Of Control System Cable Harness With Oil Temperature Sensor.

Was the transmission temperature within its permitted range?

Yes - FAULT FOUND

No - Checking wiring and components

-------------------------------------------------

Checking wiring and components
Check the cable between control module #A37 (#A37)and transmission connector (control module side) #12 for an open-circuit according to Checking wiring and terminals. Permanent fault Checking Wiring and Terminals. Permanent Fault and a short-circuit to supply voltage according to Checking wiring and terminals. Permanent fault Checking Wiring and Terminals. Permanent Fault.
Check the cable between control module #A55 (#A55)and transmission connector (control module side) #13 for an open-circuit according to Checking wiring and terminals. Permanent fault Checking Wiring and Terminals. Permanent Fault and a short-circuit to supply voltage according to Checking wiring and terminals. Permanent fault Checking Wiring and Terminals. Permanent Fault.
Remedy as necessary.

Other information:
- To connect the breakout box, see Connecting the breakout box, B5234T9, B5244T7 Connecting The Breakout Box.
- To disconnect transmission connector A, see Replacement Of Control System Cable Harness With Oil Temperature Sensor.
- For information about signals, see Signal description. Transmission control module (TCM), AW55-50/51SN Signal Description AW50-42.

Was a fault found in the wiring?

Yes - Verification

No - Checking the oil temperature sensor

-------------------------------------------------

Checking the oil temperature sensor

- Ignition off.
- Transmission connector disconnected.
Check the temperature sensor by measuring the resistance between transmission connector A #12 and #13.
The resistance should be 4.5-6 kohms.

Was the resistance OK?

Yes - FAULT FOUND

No - Replacing the transmission

-------------------------------------------------

Replacing the transmission

Note! Transmission AW 55-50SN must be replaced in the event of internal faults during the first year on the market.

Replace the transmission according to Removing the transmission Transmission, Removal.

Continue - Resetting "Transmission oil change" counter

-------------------------------------------------

Resetting "Transmission fluid change" counter

Resetting Transmission fluid change counter

Resetting Transmission fluid change counter

Hint: The transmission control module (TCM) has a counter for the oil quality. The counter counts up if the transmission is exposed to too high a load or an ambient temperature that is too high. If the counter is not reset when the oil is drained or changed, there is a risk that a diagnostic trouble code (DTC) will be stored in faulty circumstances. Therefore it is important that the "Transmission oil change" counter is reset.

Note! This applies only when the transmission fluid is changed and when the fluid is changed when repairs are carried out to the transmission temperature sensor.

- Ignition on.
Reset the counter by clicking on the VCT 2000 symbol.

Verification

Verification

Hint: After carrying out the repair, check that the fault has been remedied.

- Ignition off.
- Reinstall the connectors, components etc.
- Ignition on.
- Read off the oil temperature.
Check that the transmission oil temperature is within its permitted range.
Compare with the transmission temperature.

Note! The transmission temperature sensor is located inside the control unit and can be affected by the heat given off by the solenoids.

Fault-tracing information

Information

Fault-tracing information
The fault should have been detected and remedied. As this is not the case fault-tracing has failed.
Exit fault-tracing for this diagnostic trouble code (DTC) or make another attempt.

Do you want to exit fault-tracing?

Yes - Exit fault-tracing

No - Attempt New Test

-------------------------------------------------

Intermittent fault
Check the wiring between transmission control module (TCM) #A37 (#A37) and #A55 (#A55) and transmission connector A #12 and #13 for an intermittent short-circuit to each other.
Check the cable between control module #A37 (#A37) and transmission connector A (control module side) #12 for an intermittent short-circuit to supply voltage according to Checking wiring and terminals. Intermittent faults Checking Wiring and Terminals. Intermittent Faults.
