Faulty Signal

Incorrect signal

Check the selector lever position sensor adjustment

- Ignition on.
- Read off the position of the selector lever.
Move the selector lever into all positions and check that the lever positions are updated. If the display shows an undefined position, such as O2, the selector lever position sensor is incorrectly adjusted.
If necessary, adjust the selector lever position sensor, see Checking and adjusting the gear-shift position sensor Adjustments.

Was the selector lever sensor incorrectly adjusted?

Yes - Verifying

No - Checking leads

-------------------------------------------------

Checking leads

- Ignition off.
- Unplug the transmission connector.
- Connect the breakout box.
Check the leads between the transmission connector (to the control module):
- 1A and control module #A46 (#A46) "A"
- 2A and control module #A64 (#B4) "B"
- 3A and control module #A45 (#A45) "C"
- 4A and control module #A63 (#B3) "PA"
for an open circuit, see Checking wiring and terminals. Permanent fault Checking Wiring and Terminals. Permanent Fault , shorting to ground, see Checking wiring and terminals. Permanent fault Checking Wiring and Terminals. Permanent Fault , and shorting to voltage, see Checking wiring and terminals. Permanent fault Checking Wiring and Terminals. Permanent Fault.

Other information:
- For connection of the breakout box, see Connecting the breakout box, B5234T9, B5244T7 Connecting The Breakout Box.
- For information on signals, see Signal description. Transmission control module (TCM), AW55-50/51SN Signal Description AW50-42.
Was any fault detected? Select from the alternatives below:
1. No fault detected.
2. Open circuit in the leads or shorting to ground.
3. Leads shorted to voltage.

Checking the selector lever position sensor

Hint: The selector lever position sensor could become inoperative as a consequence of the signal lead being shorted to voltage. Check the selector lever position sensor as described below:

- Ignition off.
- Transmission connector plugged in.
- Control module plugged in.
- Ignition on.
- Read off the position of the selector lever position sensor.
Move the selector lever several times to all positions and within each individual position to check the functionality of the selector lever position sensor. If the functionality of the selector lever position sensor is OK, the cause of the fault is contact resistance and corrosion.

Are all positions OK?

Yes - FAULT FOUND

No - Component replacement

Verifying

Verification

Hint: After carrying out the repair check that the fault has been remedied.

- Ignition off.
- Reconnect components, connectors etc.
- Ignition on.
- Read off gear-shift position sensor position.
Move the gear selector to all shift positions a number of times, and repeatedly select the same position to check the operation of the gear-shift position sensor.

Are all values OK?

Yes - VERIFIED

No - VERIFICATION FAILED

Intermittent fault

- Ignition off.
Check that the selector lever position sensor is fitted properly and firmly in place.
Check the control module and transmission connectors and the selector lever position sensor's ground connection for intermittent loose contact (connections), see Checking wiring and terminals. Intermittent faults Checking Wiring and Terminals. Intermittent Faults , as well as contact resistance and corrosion, see Checking wiring and terminals. Permanent fault Checking Wiring and Terminals. Permanent Fault.
Check the leads between the selector lever position sensor and the control module for an intermittent open circuit, see Checking wiring and terminals. Intermittent faults Checking Wiring and Terminals. Intermittent Faults , an intermittent short to ground, see Checking wiring and terminals. Intermittent faults Checking Wiring and Terminals. Intermittent Faults , and an intermittent short to voltage, see Checking wiring and terminals. Intermittent faults Checking Wiring and Terminals. Intermittent Faults.
