Incorrect Gear Ratio

Incorrect gear ratios

Check the control module version and transmission

- Ignition on.
- Take note of the control module's (software's) part number.
- Take note of the transmission's part number.
Compare the software and transmission part numbers with the engine specifications. Check that these agree. If the software or transmission do not agree, switch to the correct version.

Select an alternative:
1. Part numbers match.
2. Transmission part number does not match.
3. Software part number does not match.

1 - Checking the gear position sensor adjustment

2 - Replacing the transmission

3 - Ordering software

-------------------------------------------------

Ordering software
The control module can be programmed with new software. Update the software to remedy the fault.
Order software as described in 9438299 (S70/V70) or 9438426 (C70).

Continue - Programming the control module

-------------------------------------------------

Programming the control module
Programming can be done once the software has been delivered.
Program the control module as described in 9438299 (S70/V70) 9438426 (C70).

Continue - DONE

-------------------------------------------------

Checking the gear position sensor adjustment

- Ignition on.
- Read off the selector lever position.
Move the selector lever to a different position and check that the gear position is updated.

Hint: If the display shows an undefined position , e.g. O2, the gear position sensor is incorrectly adjusted.

Rectify as necessary

General information:
- For adjusting the gear position sensor, see Checking and adjusting the gear-shift position sensor Adjustments.

Was the gear position sensor incorrectly adjusted?

Yes - Verification

No - Checking contact resistance and oxidation

-------------------------------------------------

Checking noise from the transmission
- Test drive the car, see Test Drive Form, description Test Drive Form, Description.
- Check if the transmission produces any obvious noise or has functional faults.

Does the transmission produce noise?

Yes - Replacing the transmission

No - FAULT FOUND

-------------------------------------------------

Checking solenoid S4

- Ignition on.
- Activate solenoid S4.
Check that the solenoid "clicks".

Hint: Use a stethoscope.

If the solenoid does not click, there is probably a mechanical fault.

Does the solenoid click?

Yes - Checking contact resistance and oxidation

No - Replacing the transmission

-------------------------------------------------

Checking contact resistance and oxidation

- Ignition off.
Check the control module connector and connectors A and B of the transmission with respect to contact resistance and oxidation, see Checking wiring and terminals. Permanent fault Checking Wiring and Terminals. Permanent Fault

General information:
- To access the transmission connectors, see Replacement Of Control System Cable Harness With Oil Temperature Sensor.

Continue - Checking noise from the transmission

-------------------------------------------------

Test running the transmission
Test drive the car, see Test Drive Form, description Test Drive Form, Description.
Look for any problems in the function of the transmission.

Does the transmission work fault-free?

Yes - FAULT FOUND

No - Replacing the transmission

-------------------------------------------------

Replacing the transmission

Note! In the event of internal faults during the first year on the market, the AW55-50SN transmission should be replaced.

Replace the transmission as described in Removing the transmission Transmission, Removal.

Continue - Verification

-------------------------------------------------

Replacing the transmission
Previous tests indicate an internal fault in the transmission.
Replace the transmission as described in Removing the transmission Transmission, Removal.

Continue - Verification

Verification

Verification

Hint: After carrying out the repair, check that the fault has been remedied.

- Ignition off
- Reconnect the connectors, components, etc.
- Ignition on
Test drive the vehicle following: Test drive schedule, description Test Drive Form, Description
During the test drive, oil temperature should be over 20 °C.
Note any deviations in transmission function.

Does the transmission function flawlessly?

Yes - VERIFIED

No - VERIFICATION FAILED

------------------------

VERIFICATION FAILED - Fault-tracing information

VERIFIED - FAULT FOUND

-------------------------------------------------

Fault-tracing information

Information

Fault-tracing information
The fault should have been detected and remedied. As this is not the case fault-tracing has failed.
Exit fault-tracing for this diagnostic trouble code (DTC) or make another attempt.

Do you want to exit fault-tracing?

Yes - Exit fault-tracing

No - Attempt New Test

------------------------

Attempt New Test - Check the control module version and transmission
