Signal Too High.

Signal too high.

Checking passenger compartment temperature sensor's fan motor

- Ignition off.
- Remove passenger compartment temperature sensor according to Replacing passenger compartment temperature sensor (ECC) Service and Repair. Leave the sensor connected.
- Ignition on.
- Start blower fan on manual speed, the sensor fan motor should start.
Check that temperature sensor fan motor is operating correctly.

Is the fan working?

Yes - Intermittent fault.

No - Checking connectors

-------------------------------------------------

Checking connectors

- Ignition off.
- Corrective action to the passenger compartment temperature sensor and control module connectors for contact resistance and oxidation according to Checking wiring and terminals. Permanent fault Checking Wiring and Terminals. Permanent Fault.
Check carefully for signs of damage etc.
- To remove the control module, refer to Replacing ECC control module Removal and Replacement.
- To access the passenger compartment temperature sensor, refer to Replacing passenger compartment temperature sensor (ECC) Service and Repair.
- Reinstall components, reconnect connectors etc. Leave the temperature sensor loose but connected to the system.
- Ignition on.
- Start blower fan.
Check that fan motor in the temperature sensor is operating.
If blower fan motor is now OK this indicates that the fault was caused by poor contact in the connectors.

Is the fan motor working?

Yes - FAULT FOUND

No - Checking components and cables

-------------------------------------------------

Checking components and cables
Check cable between ECC control module #AB8 and passenger compartment temperature sensor terminal 4 for an open-circuit according to Checking wiring and terminals. Permanent fault Checking Wiring and Terminals. Permanent Fault.
Check the cable between passenger compartment temperature sensor terminal 2 ground terminal for an open-circuit according to Checking wiring and terminals. Permanent fault Checking Wiring and Terminals. Permanent Fault.
Check that the fan motor is OK, the fan turns easily and the motor is not short-circuited internally.

Hint: A short-circuit on the ground lead can be caused by a short-circuit to supply voltage. Always check the signal cable for this fault cause as well.

Remedy as necessary.

Other information:
- To access/replace the control module, refer to Replacing ECC control module Removal and Replacement.
- To access/replace the passenger compartment temperature sensor, refer to Replacing passenger compartment temperature sensor (ECC) Service and Repair.
- Breakout box connection, refer to Connection of breakout box ECC Connection of Breakout Box ECC.
- Voltage on the control signal lead should be battery voltage approximately when the fan is activated. For other values, refer to Signal specification ECC Signal Specification ECC.
