Replacing Rear Wiper Unit and Motor
REAR WIPER UNIT AND MOTOR REPLACEMENTNOTE: Refit special radio interference suppression unit if fitted.
Removal
- Undo nut, do it up a few turns to protect threads on wiper unit shaft.
- Remove wiper arm from wiper mechanism by holding nut with polygrip pliers and pushing arm off.
- Remove wiper arm.
- Remove inside opener cover by prying out top edge with flat blade (1) and pulling bottom edge downward (2).
- Remove 3rd brake light cover by carefully prying out bottom edge at the seam line, starting in the center of the edge.
- Remove 3rd brake light bulb holder.
Remove:
- Tailgate lower panel by prying outward clips (4) at bottom edge of tailgate.
- Slide panel forward to free clips from tailgate.
CAUTION: Protect lower section of tailgate upper panel with tape to prevent scratching.
Remove:
- Wiper unit mounting bolts (3) and open connector.
NOTE: Wire harness routing.
Remove:
- Nut securing wiper mechanism to motor output shaft.
- Motor mounting bolts (3) in wiper unit.
Installation
- Connect 12 V supply to wiper motor to ensure wiper motor assumes off position.
Install:
- New motor in wiper unit.
- Motor mounting bolts.
Install:
- Wiper unit in tailgate.
- Connect connector to wiper unit.
- Bolts to wiper unit, tighten to 10 Nm (7.5 ft.lb.).
NOTE: Wiring routing between mechanism and body.
- Ensure that the installed motor is in parked position.
- Install nut securing wiper mechanism to motor output shaft.
- Tighten nut to 20 Nm (175 inch-lb).
- Attach tailgate wiper arm.
- Tighten nut to 16 Nm (140 inch-lb).
- Check wiper function.
Transfer upper clips in panel to holes in tailgate.
Install:
- Tailgate lower panel. First locate and press top edge into position. Repeat at lower edge.
- Inside opener cover by locating bottom edge in position and pressing home top edge.
- Install 3rd brake light bulb holder.
Adjust position of brake light bulb holder until top edge is 5 mm below lowermost conductor in window heating element. This adjustment allows the bulb holder to be aligned to the top edge of the lamp cover.
- Snap brake light cover in place.
- Check brake light function.
