This service bulletin describes how to adjust the opening angle of the tailgate on V70 XC
Tailgate opening angle, adjusting
Checking the opening angle 1
The opening angle of the tailgate is adjusted using the front mountings on the gas struts which are front-rear adjustable. It is important that both gas struts reach their end position at the same time so that the weight is evenly distributed when the tailgate is open.
Adjust angel of tailgate to avoid damage to paint work according to the procedure in this service bulletin A = 3-5 mm (1/8-3/16")
Removing the headlining 2
Remove:
- The rear roof mountings
- The plugs and screws from the rear headlining
- The rear headlining.
Removing the D-post panels 3
Remove:
- The screws holding the D-post panels
- The D-post panels from both sides.
Slackening off the gas strut mounting 4
Note:
Before the bolts are loosened for gas strut (arrows), the tailgate MUST be supported. Failing to support the tailgate may result in paint damage.
Slacken off the gas strut front mounting on both sides. The distance between the tailgate and the rails is then maximum.
Adjusting the opening angle of the tailgate 5
Carefully push the tailgate upwards until the distance between the tailgate and the roof rail is 3-5 mm (1/8-3/ 16") (A).
Torque the screws for the gas struts to 25 Nm (18.5 lbs). It is important that both gas struts reach their end position at the same time so that the weight is evenly distributed when the tailgate is open.
Reinstall removed components.
