Volvo Cars of North America, Inc. and Volvo Cars of Canada Ltd. have determined that a defect, which relates to motor vehicle safety, may exist in the tailgate locking mechanism of certain model year 2000 V70 vehicles. A manufacturing defect, in combination with cold temperatures, may cause improper locking of the tailgate. On all vehicles affected by this recall, the locking mechanism for the tailgate will be replaced.
Approximately 4,962 vehicles in the US and 336 vehicles in Canada are affected.
All owners of these affected vehicles will by notified by mail beginning the week of September 18, 2000.
