Tailgate Locking Mechanism, replacement
Background
It has been determined that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exist in the locking mechanism of certain 2000 model year V70 vehicles. In combination with cold temperatures this may cause improper locking of the tailgate. On all vehicles affected by this recall the locking mechanism for the tailgate will be replaced.

Tailgate panel

Removing tailgate panel
Carefully remove bezel (A) for the opening lever, if present
Hint:
Illustration shows view of door from inside, grab handle is located on left side of door looking at it from the rear.
Remove two screws securing grab handle, remove grab handle.

Protecting panels
Note!
The upper panel must be covered to prevent scratches.
Insert a piece of cardboard
180 x 100 mm, (7 inches by 4 inches) between the panels as per illustration.

Loosen panel with door in open position
Carefully pull bottom of panel downwards to release lower clips.
If it is difficult to release from clips, use a trim tool for aid

Removing panel from tailgate
Carefully push panel forward on both sides simultaneously to release from tailgate.
Make sure cardboard is in place.
Remove upper mounting clips from panel.
Loosen up the panel by turning the clips 90 degrees in either direction.
Reinstall clips in tailgate.

Replacing tailgate door lock mechanism
Remove:
- inner tailgate opener (2 screws) if present. Disconnect connector.

Remove:
- link rods.
- lock mechanism (3 torx screws).
Remove lock.
Install in reverse order.
