Removing components from right shock absorber mounting
4 door, early version





Fold the backrests forward. Release the front edge of the cargo compartment carpet
Remove support panel under front edge of carpet
Slacken off front edge of right side panel, fold to the side
Remove backrest catches and panel retaining clip.

4 door, new version





Remove support panel according to (B2)
Cut side panel vents in the front and rear edges as illustrated
Turn up the panel cover which covers the shock absorber mounting





Remove the two screws for the upper shock absorber mounting on the right side
Undo the clamp for the connector
Fold back the cables and connector from the shock absorber mounting.

Remove:





- right wheel
- the right-hand side anti-roll bar mounting.

Remove:
- the brake pipe bracket on the right trailing arm
- ABS cable and brake pipe from the clip on the right trailing arm.
Press up trailing arm so that load is taken from the shock absorber.





Use a mobile jack. Position it on the recess for the spring mounting screw.
Slacken off shock absorber from lower mounting. Pull off shock absorber from shaft journal and lower trailing arm

Remove:





- spring mounting nut
- spring from car.
Install shock absorber and tighten nut a few turns

Remove:
- screws A for the transverse mountings on troth sides
- the screws B and C on the right-hand side.
Position a mobile jack under the left spring seat





Press up the left trailing arm slightly to take load off the right trailing arm mounting.
Bend down the trailing arm mounting from the bodywork locating pin on right-hand side





Press out the right trailing arm, left trailing arm remains in its position.
Remove the transverse mounting from the right transverse arm

Installation:





Install the new transverse mounting for the trailing arm

Align the mounting to the mounting in the left trailing arm
Ensure that the trailing arson has the same position in relation to the bodywork. Tighten screws to 80 Nm (59.0 ft. lbs.).
Adjust left trailing arm position with mobile jack. Reinstall the right transverse arm with mounting in position but without installing screws
Replace mounting to left transverse arm





Align the mounting as before. Tighten screws to 80 Nm (59.0 ft. lbs.).
Reinstall the transverse arm with mount to position but without installing screws
Install right trailing arm to bodywork locating pin
Use new screws.
First tighten screw (C) which goes through the bracket and rear axle link. Tighten to 105 Nm (77.44 ft. lbs.). Angle tighten to 90°.
Then tighten the three bracket screws (B) to 65 Nm (48.0 ft. lbs.) and angle-tighten 60°.
Use bevel protractor 951 2050.

Install transverse arm screws (A)

Caution Use new screws and nuts. Finger tighten. Note! Tighten screws (A) finally after toe in setting.





Release right shock absorber

Install:
- the spring. Tighten lower spring mounting nut to 40 Nm (29.5 ft. lbs.)
- right shock absorber. Tighten to 80 Nm (59.0 ft. lbs.).

Install:





- brake pipe and ABS cable onto trailing arm retaining clip
- the brake pipe bracket on the trailing and mounting lug
- anti-roll bar to the trailing arm. Use new nuts. Tighten to 50 Nm (36.9 ft. lbs.).

Install wheel
Install wheel studs lightly. Then tighten crosswise to 110 Nm (81.1 ft. lbs.).

Tighten upper shock absorber mounting screws to 25 Nm (18.44 ft. lbs.). Install connector with a tie strap

Reinstall carpet, panels/floor hatch
4 door, early version

Caution Lock catches for backrest mountings with locking fluid. Tighten to 20 Nm (14.75 ft. lbs.).





Reinstall support panel and carpet
4 door late version





Fold down the cover over shock absorber mounting.
Reinstall support panel and carpet
