Replacing Tail Lamps 5-Door
Replacing Bulbs
Position of bulbs
From the top the bulbs have the following functions:
- 1 = Turn signal lamps.
- 2 = Stop (brake) lamp
- 3 = Tail lamp
- 4 = Back-up (reversing) lamp
- 5 = Tail lamp, and on the left-hand side a fog tail lamp (LHD cars).

Replacing Upper Tail Lamp Bulbs
Replace the tail lamp bulbs from inside the passenger compartment.
Ignition off.
Open cover with a flat screwdriver.
Remove loud speaker.
Press down catches and pull out bulb holder.
Replace the faulty bulb.
Assemble in reverse order.
Note! Ensure that the catches engage properly
Test all bulbs.
Replacing Lower Tail Lamp Bulbs.
Ignition off
Remove rear, outer floor hatch.
Turn the retaining clip a 1/4 turn on the cover in front of the tail lamp. Remove the cover by pressing it down a little.
Press in the two catches and lift out the bulb holder.
Replace the faulty bulb.
Assemble in reverse order.
Note! Ensure that the catches engage properly
Test all bulbs.
Replacing Tail Lamp Assembly
Replacing upper tail lamp
The tail lamp has an upper and a lower lamp housing.
Note! To remove the lower lamp housing the upper lamp housing must always be removed as it overlaps the lower.
Replacing Upper Tail Lamp
Ignition off.
Open cover with a flat screwdriver.
Remove loud speaker.
Press down catches and pull out bulb holder.
Remove the two tail lamp retaining nuts. Use a long socket.
Disconnect connector.
Remove the tail lamp and clean the mating surfaces on the bodywork.
Install New Tail Lamp.
Reconnect the connector and reinstall the cover.
Check fit.
Replacing Lower Tail Lamp
Ignition off.
Remove:
- upper tail lamp according to operations Replacing upper tail lamp.
- floor hatch and cover in front of lower tail lamp according to operations Replacing lower tail lamp bulbs.
Press in the two catches and lift out the bulb holder.
Replacing Lower Tail Lamp
Fold up floor hatch and unscrew sill trim panel.
Remove panels and remove nuts holding tail lamp with a long socket.
Remove the tail lamp and clean the mating surfaces on the bodywork.
Install:
- the new tail lamp.
- connector and other components.
Check fit of both lower and upper lamp housing against bodywork.
