Hint: After carrying out the repair, check that the fault has been remedied.
Hint: An alternative to the following method is to drive the car on the road.
- Ignition off
- Raise car so that front wheels rotate freely. For AWD cars, all the wheels.
- Remove wheels.
- Engine idling
- Select a gear so the wheels begin turning.
- Read off the vehicle speed signal.
Check vehicle speed signal
If the speedometer is malfunctioning then carry out fault-tracing on the combined instrument panel first.
NOTE: When the rear wheels are stationary and the front wheels rotate, Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) can be stored in the ABS system. Erase any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) stored in the ABS system after fault-tracing.
NOTE: For automatic transmissions, make sure the wheels are not moving when the gear selector is moved.
