Door lock, installation of protective cover

Background

A protective cover for the door locks has been introduced into production from the following chassis number.

The protective covers are separate replacement parts and are supplied as a kit containing four covers. The covers can be installed to help prevent moisture from entering the lock unit. The covers are included when ordering spare part door locks.

This Service Bulletin describes how to install the covers.

Removal

Removing door panels

Remove the door panels.

Removing the panel for the door lock





Remove the panel (1).

Remove the cable from the door panel.

Only the front door is illustrated.

Removing the lock button





Detach and remove the lock button (1) from the lever.

Disconnecting the guide rail (rear door)





Remove the lower screw (1) for the guide rail.

Do not move the guide rail more than 30 mm sideways from the lower mounting point when removing the lock.

Disconnecting the lock unit (front and rear doors)





Remove screws (B), Torx 30.

Note!
Only the front door is illustrated.

Positioning the protective cover





The protective covers have stamped markings that indicate the left and right hand sides.

Slide the lock out of the door.

Insert the cover at an angle over the lock (1).

Position the channel (2) (on the outside of the cover) over the corresponding projection on the lock. The cover will then be positioned correctly on the lock.

Installing the protective cover





Install the protective cover (1) over the lock.

Installing the lock unit





Slide the lock unit back into place, and fasten it with new screws. Tighten to 7.4 ft-lb (10 Nm)

Installing the removed components, function test

Reinstall all removed components in reverse order.

Check all door lock functions, including remote locking and unlocking.

Check all other electrical functions related to removing and installing the door panel.

WARRANTY STATEMENT: Claims may be submitted under the New Car Warranty when there is a documented customer complaint, using claim type 01.
