Mud guard, rear jacking point

Background:

The mud guard on the two rear jacking points are installed to prevent stone chips from damaging the paint. On early production cars the mud guard was attached to the jacking point with a clamp. On cars produced with chassis no. 492968 and higher, the mud guard is held in place with two clips. Only the new style mud guard will be available as spare part. If one of the mud guards needs to be replaced, the other side must be replaced at the same time as well.

Replacing mudguard

Early version mudguards





Early version mudguards (no longer available as replacement part).

Installing new mudguard





Hold the mudguard against the jacking point.

Note!
It is important that the mudguard is installed parallel to the jacking point.

Mark out the location for the clip holes





Use the mudguard as a template and mark the position of the clip holes.

Drill the holes for the clips





Drill 5.5 mm (7/32") holes as marked.

Use an angle drill motor and short drill bit.

Rust-proof the holes





Rustproof the holes with underseal, P/N 1381O63-5 or similar.

Installing mudguard





Install:

- mudguard with clips.

Tap the clips into place





Note!
Carefully tap the clips into place with a plastic mallet.
