Checking Shift Solenoid S3

Checking Shift Solenoid S3

NOTE: The transmission must not be colder than room temperature when activated.

- Ignition off.
- Check the transmission and control module connectors for contact resistance and oxidation according to Checking wiring and terminals. Permanent faults.
- Ignition on.
- Activate shift solenoid S3.

A "click" should be heard when the solenoid is activated. Use a stethoscope to hear the click more clearly.

There is a mechanical fault if the solenoids do not click. If the solenoid "clicks" the cause of the fault is contact resistance and oxidation.

Other information
- To access the transmission connectors, see Connectors, transmission, disconnecting/connecting.
- To access the control module connector, see Transmission control module (TCM), replacing.
