Faulty Signal

ECM-91F0 THROTTLE UNIT, INTERNAL FAULT
FAULTY SIGNAL

Checking connectors
Check that the connector terminals for the electronic throttle module are OK. Check that there is voltage to the throttle unit from the system relay. With ignition on there should be a cheeping noise from the throttle unit for a moment, when it receives voltage.

Check that the battery voltage is normal. Check that the charging status of the battery is OK.

Symptom check
In certain cases to determine if the fault is permanent or intermittent the engine must be started and stopped up to three times (to force the fault to occur). Cancel when the symptoms appear in the car but keep the engine running.

Hint: Check for symptoms between each start of the engine. See the fault code information. The symptom "accelerator pedal (AP) is ignored when braking" can be used as a check. In the event of faults, it is not possible to increase the engine speed (RPM) at the same time as the brake pedal is depressed.

Note! The voltage supply to the electronic throttle module must be interrupted to empty the memory between each start.

Hint: Interrupt the supply voltage to the electronic throttle module by removing the affected fuse. Do not forget to insert the fuse before the next engine start. See the fuses In the integrated relay/fusebox in the engine compartment.

Read off diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) with the engine running.

Is diagnostic trouble code (DTC) ECM-91F0 stored?
Yes - Continue below.
No - Fault-tracing information
The electronic throttle module has previously registered a fault, but has detected that the fault no longer exists.

Checking the throttle
Check if the throttle unit is blocked. Press the throttle disc to check for jamming.

Hint: A film of oil covering the throttle can mean that the flame trap is not functioning correctly.

Small objects can cause the throttle disc to jam momentarily, this can cause the diagnostic fault code

Was a fault detected?
Yes - Continue below.
No - Skip to "Checking status"

Checking the fault cause
- Try to remove whatever is affecting the throttle disc.

Note! Check why the throttle disc was affected to avoid the fault recurring.

It is not possible to remove the obstruction or the throttle shaft is jammed. Try a new electronic throttle module.

Checking status
- Switch off the ignition if it is switched on
- Disconnect and connect the connector for the electronic throttle module
- Start the engine. Check whether any symptoms remain.

Hint: For the appropriate symptoms, see diagnostic trouble code (DTC) information.

Try replacing the throttle unit if the symptoms are still present. Otherwise continue to the final check.
