Slow Control - Permanent Fault

ECM-644A CAMSHAFT RESET VALVE
SLOW CONTROL - PERMANENT FAULT

Checking component and wiring

Check reset valve camshaft resistance between # 1 and # 2, resistance should be approximately 3.7 ohm.

Check the signal cable between engine control module (ECM) # A 13 and camshaft reset valve # 2 for an open-circuit and for a short-circuit to ground and a short-circuit to supply voltage

Check power supply cable # 5 and camshaft reset valve # 1 for an open-circuit and for a short-circuit to ground.

Remedy as necessary.

Other information:
- To connect the breakout box Connecting the Breakout Box (ECM)
- To access/replace the camshaft reset valve, Variable Valve Timing Solenoid, Replacing
- With the ignition on and camshaft reset valve connector disconnected the voltage on connector # 1 should be approximately Ubat and connector # 2 be a pulse modulated signal with top voltage at approximately Ubat and with a frequency of approximately 250 Hz.
- For information about signals, see Diagnostic Parameters and Pinout Values. Signal Description, ME7, B5XX4T

Was a fault detected?
Yes - Testing Complete.
No - Continue below.

Checking component

Check the oil level and oil quality.
Check that the variable valve timing (VVT) unit and reset valve function mechanically.

Remedy as necessary.

Other information:
- To connect the breakout box Connecting the Breakout Box (ECM)
- To access/replace the camshaft reset valve, Variable Valve Timing Solenoid, Replacing
- For information about signals, see Diagnostic Parameters and Pinout Values. Signal Description, ME7, B5XX4T

Verification

Hint: After carrying out the repair, check that the fault has been remedied.

- Ignition off.
- Reinstall the connectors, components etc.
- Ignition on.
- Start the engine. Let it idle for at least 30 seconds.
- Neutralize the idling conditions. Carefully depress the accelerator pedal (AP) for 5 seconds, keeping the engine speed (RPM) below 1,200 rpm.
- Then release the accelerator pedal (AP) so that the engine returns to idling.
- Read the adaptation values for the camshaft. Check that all values are below 7 degrees.

Are all adaptation values below 7 degrees?
Yes - Testing Complete.
No - Continue below.

Fault-tracing information
The fault should have been detected and remedied. As this is not the case fault-tracing has failed. Exit fault tracing for this diagnostic trouble code (DTC) or make another attempt.
