Removing components 1
Remove
- 1 screw in the handle.
- the panel trim around the door handle according to Removing the surround.
- door mirror panel.
- 6 press clips at the bottom edge of the door.
- 2 press clips in the side of the door.
Depress the lock facing at the bottom of the storage compartment and pull out the bottom edge of the panel.
Lift off the panel. Start at the rear of the panel. The panel is secured with 2 internal clips at the rear and front edges.
The weatherstrip may come off with the panel on removal. Remove the smaller moulding in the weatherstrip.
Press the control panel for the power window mechanism upwards by hand from the inside.
Disconnect the wiring connectors, windows, speaker and mirror.
Installing the moulding 2
If the weatherstrip came off with the panel on removal, install the smaller moulding on the upper member for the door cassette before installing the weatherstrip.
The smaller moulding should start approximately 15 cm (5.9 inches) from the rear edge of the door (the section with double metal sheet).
Hint:
It is easier to install the moulding if it is lubricated with soap solution.
Removing the front power window lift mechanism cassette 3
Note:
Check if the mounting screws have washers between the inner panel and the power window lift mechanism cassette. If this is the case, count the washers at each screw when removed. Install the same number of washers for each mounting screw as were removed from between the inner panel and the power window lift mechanism cassette.
The window must be up to lift out the cassette. If the window is locked in the lower position due to a defective motor or cable, the cable must be cut where it connects to the motor. To replace the motor and cable, see VADIS Lift mechanism motor and cable in the side window, replace Section 3(35-38), Lighting, instrumentation and other electrical equipment, C70.
Note!
The front adjustment screw must not press into the guide rail.
Remove the clip (2) holding the lift cable.
Remove
- The connector.
- the 5 screws for the loudspeaker and plug.
- the 4 screws (C) for the inner door opener.
- the soundproofing panels.
Hint:
Scrape off the soundproofing panels with a plastic filler spatula.
- 1 nut (D) and 1 screw (E) from the lock bracket.
- the connector and the remaining nuts (D) for the lift mechanism motor.
- the remaining screw (E) for the SIPS block in the bottom edge of the door.
Lift out the SIPS block,
Note!
Certain cars between chassis numbers 329-604 have standard bolts and washers instead of adjustment screws. Replace with adjustment screws.
- the lock nuts (A) (previous illustration) on both the adjustment screws. Counterhold with a torx screwdriver. Screw in both the adjustment screws as far as they will go.
Note!
The front adjustment screw must not press into the guide rail. Screw in lightly by hand until it engages.
- 6 screws (B) and (F) in the upper edge of the door securing the cassette in the door.
Lift out the power window mechanism cassette.
Caution!
Take care not to damage the door panels when lifting the cassette out of the door. It is easier if two people lift in the cassette.
Aligning the bracket 4
Remove any rubber stops or remains.
Align the wing/bracket so it is at a right-angle (90 degrees).
Measuring and drilling 5
Use calipers to mark out A and B.
A= 3.5 mm (9/64").
Note!
Measured from the bottomside of the bracket.
B= Centre bracket.
Drill the hole (C) with a 5.0 mm (13/64") drill bit.
Riveting and installing new rubber stops 6
Install a washer at the hole (2) and install a blind rivet (1).
Install the new rubber stop (3).
Check 7
Check that the rubber stop (1) is secure.
Installing the front power window lift mechanism cassette 8
Lift the power window lift mechanism cassette in.
Caution:
Take care not to damage the door panels when the lifting the cassette in. It is easier if two people lift in the cassette.
Note!
Turn the motor so that it is in the correct position before lifting in the power window lift mechanism cassette.
Screw out the adjustment screws so that there is a distance of 25 mm between the power window lift mechanism cassette and the adjustment screw. See the illustration.
Hint
Make a 25 mm spacer, with piece of metal for example, to facilitate measuring between the power window lift mechanism cassette and the adjustment screw.
Install 5 screws (B) and and 1 screw (F) for the power window lift mechanism cassette in the upper edge of the door.
The door must be closed before the 5 screws (B) and screw (F) are tightened so that good alignment is retained. Tighten the screws (B) to 25 Nm (18 lb.ft) and screw (F) to 6 Nm (4 lb.ft).
Note!
The power window lift mechanism cassette is part of the collision protection system.
Apply thread lock on the attachment studs of the window winder.
Install the lock nuts (A) on both the adjustment screws. Counterhold with a torx screwdriver.
Install the clip (2) for the lift cable.
Caution!
The tape (1) must be in place before the cable is installed.
Installing the soundproofing panels 9
In order for the audio system to retain high sound quality and minimize road noise, it is important that the soundproofing panels in the doors are complete and properly bonded to the doors.
Caution:
If a soundproofing panel is damaged, it must be replaced.
Reinstall the remaining components correctly.
Check the function of the system.
Further adjustment 10
If further adjustment is required, see Service Bulletin 83-0002 1999.
