- Ignition on.
Activate central locking motor in tailgate.
Is the tailgate central locking motor activated?
Yes - No Fault Found
No - Checking the connectors

- Disconnect the VGLA control module according to Replacing the control module Replacing the Control Module.
- Remove the tailgate interior trim.
- Check VGLA control module connector and tailgate lock unit connector for contact resistance and oxidation according to Checking wiring and terminals. Permanent fault Checking Wiring and Terminals. Permanent Fault.
- Ignition on.
Activate central locking motor in tailgate.
If the tailgate central locking motor is activated it means that the cause of the fault has been loose connections in the connectors.
Is the tailgate central locking motor activated?
Yes - FAULT FOUND
No - Checking cables

Check cable between VGLA control module #A14 and terminal 2 of tailgate lock unit connector and cable between tailgate lock unit connector terminal 4 and ground for an open-circuit according to Checking wiring and terminals. Permanent fault Checking Wiring and Terminals. Permanent Fault.

No - Replacing component

Replace lock unit in tailgate according to Replacing the lock unit on the tailgate, electric switch or motor (2/4-door) Removal and Replacement.
These repair instruction also apply to C 70.
