Checking signal to starter relay

Checking car
Check the car market code.
The easiest way to do this is to look at the product plate in the engine compartment and read from the DD field as illustrated.





Is the code 30, 31 or 39?

Yes - Checking signal

No - Checking programming

Checking programming
Check that the interlock function has not been activated by mistake by double clicking the VCT icon and selecting the interlock parameters.
If the interlock is activated it must be deactivated, see Programming parameters/functions Programming Parameters/Functions.
Then try to start the car.

Other information
- The interlock function is only prepared for use in certain markets.





Does the car start?

Yes - Verification

No - Checking signal

- Ignition on.
Read the starter relay status.





The value should be ON when the ignition is on.

OK - Checking cables

Not OK - Replacing component

Checking cables
Check the cable between VGLA control module #B21 and starter relay #4 for an open-circuit according to Checking wiring and terminals. Permanent fault Checking Wiring and Terminals. Permanent Fault.
Check that there is voltage to the starter relay #2 when the ignition is in position three.

Remedy as necessary.





Was a fault found in the wiring?

Yes - FAULT FOUND

No - No Fault Found

Replacing component
Try a new VGLA control module according to Replacing the control module Replacing the Control Module.

Select Continue when completed.

Continue - Verification

Verification

Hint: After carrying out the repair check that the fault has been remedied as follows:








- Ignition off.
- Reconnect connectors, reinstall components.
- Operate the starter motor.

Does the starter motor operate?

Yes - FAULT FOUND

No - Fault-tracing information
No Fault Found

The fault should have been detected and remedied. As this is not the case fault-tracing has failed.
Exit fault-tracing for this diagnostic trouble code (DTC) or make another attempt.
