Adaptation of Transmission control module (TCM)
After new software has been downloaded or of transmission control module (TCM) or the transmission is replaced, the transmission control module (TCM) needs to be adapted to obtain good gearshifting quality.
NOTE! If the function adaptation of control module is available in DIAGNOSTICS/CARCOMMUNICATION/TCM/Advanced, then that procedure shall be followed as first choice!
1. During the adaptation procedure, the transmission oil's temperature must be between 65 - 110°C (150 - 230°F). By accelerating the car in winter mode it is possible to speed up warming of the oil temperature if it is below prescribed level. A stall speed test may not be used to increase the oil temperature. Read off the temperature with VIDA. The adaptation will not be completed if the oil temperature is not within this range.
2. Drive the car with approx. 15% throttle and hold the pedal at the same level through all gears until you reach 4th gear. You cannot go to 5th gear with this pedal position. Repeat this until shifting quality is OK for all shifts.
3. Repeat step 2, but now with approx. 25% throttle. Hold the pedal at the same level through all gears until you reach 5th gear.
4. Accelerate to approx. 72 km/h (45 mph) and reduce speed by pressing lightly on the brake until the car stops. This should take approx. 7 seconds. Repeat this until the quality of the downshifts is OK.
5. Keep the brake pedal down and shift to P-position. Move the lever to R-position and wait 5 seconds. Return the lever to P-position and wait another 5 seconds. Repeat until shifting to R-position is OK.
6. Repeat the procedure in step 5 but move the lever between N-position and D-position until shifting to D-position is OK.
