Fault-Tracing Information
Fault-tracing information
Condition
The clutch should transfer torque in all gears at wide open throttle (WOT). The clutch driven plate is temperature sensitive. If the clutch overheats then torque cannot be transferred.
If the clutch driven plate slips excessively there is a strong burning smell. This does not necessarily mean that there is a fault in the car. The point at which the clutch driven plate overheats and begins to smell, gets higher each time the plate slips.
Possible source
- Defective clutch driven plate.
On its own, a smell from the multi-plate clutch is not a fault. A smell occurs when the clutch driven plate reaches a certain temperature.
Fault symptom[s]
- The car has poor acceleration
- The clutch slips
- Burning smell, especially in the passenger compartment.
