Control Module: Service and Repair

Replacing transmission control module (TCM)

Caution! When transferring the transmission control module (TCM) between different cars be sure to make a note of any diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) before removing the transmission control module (TCM) from the car. Turn off the ignition before removing the transmission control module (TCM) from the car.

Note! Always check the transmission control module (TCM) and control module box connector have the required pins and sockets and that these have not been pressed out of their locking positions. Damaged or loose pins or sockets can cause a fault.

Removing the control module

- Ignition off
- Open control module box. Remove the transmission control module (TCM) (slot 3 nearest the right fender).

Installing control module

Check that none of the pins or sockets on the connector are damaged.
- Install the new control module
- Ignition on
- Read off and erase diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs).

Adaptation of the throttle position (TP) signal

The throttle position (TP) sensor signal must be adapted whenever a new control module is installed. Carry out the following:
- Block all four wheels
- Start engine

Note! Apply parking brake and press down hard on the brake pedal with left foot throughout this procedure.

- Gear selector to position D
Fully depress the accelerator pedal (AP) so that the kickdown switch (KD) is activated
- Keep the accelerator pedal (AP) fully depressed for max. 5 seconds
- Release the accelerator pedal (AP) and move the gearshift selector to position P.
The throttle position (TP) sensor signal is now adapted to the new transmission control module (TCM).
