Headlight wiper arm adjustment and stop lug replacement
Background:
On certain vehicles there may be inadequate clearance between the headlight wiper blade and the stop lug Check, and if necessary, adjust the headlight wiper arm position. In addition the stop lug for the wiper arms must be replaced with a new version.

Checking the parking position of the wiper arm 1
- Turn on the ignition.
- Switch on and switch off the headlight wipers so that they return to the parking position.
- Check that the distance between the wiper blade and stop lug is 1-5 mm (0.04-0.2").
- If necessary, adjust the wiper arms according to the method below.
Adjusting the headlight wiper arms 2
- Turn off the Ignition.
- Open retaining nut cover on the wiper arm.
- Slacken off the nut, then screw the nut in a few turns to protect the thread on the wiper mechanism spindle.
- Using a pair of channel lock type pliers, release the arm from the splines on the shaft so it rotates freely.
Note!
Adjust the wipers as illustrated in A and B so that the blade is approximately 5 mm (0.2") above the stop after the nut has been tightened.
- Adjust the position of the wiper arm as illustrated.
- Position the wiper blade 5 mm (0.2") from the stop.
- Counter hold the wiper arm by hand while tightening the nut 4 Nm (3Ftlb).
- Check that wiper arms park horizontally.
Replacing the stop for the headlight wiper 3
- The left-hand section of the illustration shows an early version of the wiper blade stop.
- The right-hand section of the illustration shows a new version of the wiper blade stop lug.
- Check which version of the rubber stop is installed.
- Replace the wiper blade stop lug if it is the early version. See the method below.
- Remove the existing stop lug. Pull off the stop using pliers (left-hand section of the illustration).
- Install the new stop lug as illustrated by pressing the stop lug on to the mounting (right-hand section of the illustration).
Note!
The The stop lug must be installed as illustrated. If not installed correctly, the wiper arm may get stuck underneath the stop lug.
