Repairing loose drip rail trim moulding
1
Precautions
Note!
Great care must be taken to ensure that the moulding does not become damaged. Slight bend and kinks may be noticeable.
2
Re-attaching moulding to drip rail
Note!
Protect the painted body and mirror at each end of the moulding. As the moulding comes loose it may damage the paint work.
If the trim moulding is loose anywhere between the base of the A-post and to the B-post (section A), the moulding must be detached from the point where it is loose and all the way to the base of the A-post.
If the trim moulding is loose between the B-post and to the base of the C-post (section B), the moulding must be detached from the point where it is loose and all the way to the base of the C-post.
If only the first 200 mm (8,0") of the moulding is loose at the base of the A-post (2), continue to detach at least 100 mm (4,0") beyond the side rear view mirror.
Carefully detach molding by using a suitable heat gun and heat using low setting approx. 100-200 mm (4.0 - 8.0") at a time. Carefully remove moulding from the drip rail.
Warning!
Do not heat the moulding excessively. Carefully heat up moulding with a heat gun using low setting. As heating up the moulding, pull carefully on moulding to release it from drip rail.

Preparing the surface
Caution!
Be careful not to get primer on the surface outside of the drip moulding. It is impossible to remove when it dries. Clean immediately if it comes in contact with the outside surface.
Clean:
- surface of the moulding,
- original adhesive tape with a brush thoroughly,
- inside surface of the drip moulding with e.g. cotton swab.
Use Cleaner-H, part no. 1161436-9. Wait 10 minutes for the surface to dry properly.
Use a brush or cotton swab to apply a thin layer of primer to the mating surface (inside) of the drip moulding.
Wait 15 minutes, but no longer than 20 minutes for the primer to dry.
4
Applying adhesive
Apply a thin bed of adhesive on the moulding as shown in the picture (1).
Spread it out to a thin layer (2).
5
Refitting the drip moulding
Start refitting the moulding by carefully applying pressure and work moulding towards the end, ensuring the end part is tucked in to the pocket (1).
Note!
Immediately clean any excessive adhesive that has been pressed out. It is impossible to remove after it has dried.
Hold down the moulding by placing small blocks of e.g. hard foam on the moulding every 100-150 mm (4,0- 6,0").
Secure the blocks with masking tape.
Remove tape and foam block after 1 hour, but no longer than 2 hours.
Clean up any residues from the tape and clean the windows and the area of the body.
