Rear Knuckle Alignment Link: Service and Repair

Note! The rear axle links should be changed on both sides, one at a time. The description shows the left-hand side being replaced.





Remove the nut from the rear axle link mounting screw in the trailing arm
Tap out mounting screw.
Use a copper mallet or similar.

On the left-hand side:
Remove sound damper bracket screw.





Remove brake pipe from the two mounting clips.
Remove trailing arm bracket screws.
Leave the bracket hanging from the brake cable mounting eyelet.
Lift up the right trailing arm slightly with the mobile jack.





Bend down the link on the left-hand side from the bodywork locating pin. Use a jimmy bar.
Ensure that the trailing arm link is free of the right locating pin in the bodywork.
Install press tool 999 5497 on the trailing arm.
Press the bushing out.

Installation

Note! Turn the bushing with the large inner diameter inner sleeve towards the bodywork.

Press the new rear axle link.





Use the same tool as when removing.
Remove tool. Install a new mounting screw and nut on the rear axle link.
Do not tighten the nut yet.





Install the trailing arm on the bodywork locating pin.
Install trailing arm bracket screws finger tight.
Use new screws.
Tighten screws:
A. First tighten the screw through the rear axle link bracket. Tighten to 105 Nm (77.44 ft. lbs.). Angle-tighten to 90°
B. Then tighten the three bracket screws to 65 Nm (47.9 ft. lbs.) and angle- tighten 60°
C. Finally tighten the nut on the trailing arm-rear axle link screw to 65 Nm (47.9 ft. lbs.) and angle tighten 120�. Use bevel protractor 951 2050.

Install:





- brake pipe to mounting clip.
- sound damper bracket screw.
