Replacing the Steering Wheel

Removal

Preparations






Note! The following procedure applies to cars with SRS.

Caution! The battery must not be connected when the steering wheel module is removed or installed.

Disconnect the battery negative terminal. .

Note! Make a note of the anti-theft radio code. Removing the steering wheel module






- Slacken off the two Torx screws at rear of steering wheel.

Turn the steering wheel 90° in both directions to access the screws

- Disconnect the connector
- Remove the steering wheel module
- Slacken off the screw from the hole in the steering wheel. The screw must always remain in the plastic strap.

Note! Lock the contact reel into position using the locking screw to mark the position for the contact reel.






- Remove the steering wheel screw. Ensure that the front wheels are pointing straight ahead

- Note! Mark/score the steering shaft - steering wheel hub to mark the original position of the steering wheel.

- Lift off the steering wheel.






Take care to ensure that neither connector nor plastic strap and screw catch in the steering wheel during removal.

Installation

Installing the steering wheel






If installing a new steering wheel, mark/score it.

- Route the wiring from the contact reel through the steering wheel
- Carefully install the steering wheel so that both catches on the contact reel are seated in the two recesses in the steering wheel hub

- Note! Check that the markings/scoring correspond between the steering shaft and the steering wheel hub.

- Install the steering wheel screw
- Finger tighten.

Note! Do not turn the steering wheel when it is on the steering shaft. The contact reel is locked and may be damaged if the steering wheel is turned.

- Remove the screw locking the contact reel. Install the looking screw in the hole in the steering wheel
- Tighten the screw in the center of the steering wheel. Tighten to 40 Nm.

Installing the steering wheel module






- Turn the ignition key to position I to unlock the steering wheel
- Position the lower section of the steering wheel module against the steering wheel (1)
- Connect the connector (2)
- Fold in the steering wheel module using Torx screws from the rear
- First install the right-hand screw. Turn the steering wheel to gain access to the screws
- Tighten to 10 Nm.

Check

Check that the steering wheel can be turned easily.
After securing all the components switch on the ignition to position II.
Connect the battery negative lead.

Note! Ensure that nobody is inside the car when the battery is being connected.

Check that the SRS warning light goes out.
