DESCRIPTION:
If the vehicle does not start and DTC ECM-720A is found it indicates that the immobilizer (IMMO) PIN code is either incorrect or the PIN code is corrupt from the immobilizer antenna ring.
We have seen numerous replacements of antenna rings due to this DTC but this DTC ECM-720A can not be set due to a faulty antenna ring.
Please fault trace the vehicle according to SERVICE
SERVICE:
If IMMO fault code IMM-233, -234 or -321 is found then also check the TJ 4523.
1. Inspect the B+ cable at its terminal attachment to the fuse box for corrosion and anything else that could cause voltage loss in the circuit.
2. Check the system relay for fuel system (2/32) P/N 9494448.
3. Check ground points 31/51 and 31/52.
4. Check and remove other keys/transponders near the ignition key that could disturb the transponder signal.
5. Inspect the terminals for fuse (for immo control unit) 11C/8.
6. Make a Immo reset (by either pulling fuse or connector at immo control unit).
7. If no faults been found replace the antenna ring P/N 9442961.
If a problem still exists: continue fault tracing according to VIDA possible faults:
- ECM or CDM are not programmed.
- ECM receives an incorrect immo code from antenna ring (see above).
- ECM or CDM has incorrect immo code (due to swapped units).
- Defect ECM or CDM (less likely).
CDM = CAN (controller area network) and Driver Interface (Instrument cluster)
