Fault-Tracing Information
Fault-tracing information
Condition
The auxiliaries belt transfers power from the crankshaft pulley to the auxiliaries such as the power steering pump, air conditioning (A/C) compressor and generator (GEN). The belt tension is tensioned using an automatic belt tensioner. If the belt or belt tensioner is defective, the belt can slip at the belt pulleys, which means that the power that is to be transferred becomes friction heat between the belt and the pulley.
Possible source
- Damaged auxiliary unit belt and belt tensioner.
Fault symptom[s]
- The battery discharges
- The "Generator not charging" warning lamp lights when the ignition is switched on
- Noise from the generator (GEN)
- Noise from the belt transmission.
