Battery positive cables to starter motor/generator, replacement

Removal
Removing engine compartment components
The new cables must be drawn parallel to the existing ones. The cable terminals on the old cables must be cut off and the ends of the cables insulated.
Remove:
- the battery negative cable
- the battery positive cable
- the cables connected to the battery positive cable at the battery. (Not applicable when replacing the cable between starter motor and generator).
Removing the cooling fan (applies to vehicles without A/C)
Remove the screws, 4, holding the cooling fan cover.
Bend the cover away slightly, pull up the relay holder and unplug the connectors for the fan.
Remove:
- the air ducts for the control module box and air cleaner (ACL) housing
- fan with cover.
Removing the cooling fan (applies to vehicles with A/C)
Remove:
- control module box cooling pipe
- the air duct to the air cleaner (ACL) housing
- the screws, 4, holding the cooling fan cover and the relay console.
Detach the relay console and unplug the electrical cooling fan connector from the relay.
Detach the hose for charge air from the charge air cooler (applies to turbo engines).
Remove the cable from the 2 clamps on the cover.
Detach the vacuum hoses from the cover.
Detach the vacuum valve from the cover.
Unplug the connector to the electrical cooling fan.
Lift away the electrical cooling fan with cover.
Removing the existing cable terminals
Remove the splash guard over the starter motor connections.
Detach the connection at the starter motor/generator.
Cut off the cable terminals on the cable to be replaced.
Insulate the ends of the cables with electrical insulation tape.
Installation
Installing the retaining strap
Fit the new cable parallel with the existing one.
Secure the new cable with tie straps to the existing one.
Connect the new cable to the starter motor/generator and battery.
Check that the new cable does not make noise and is not exposed to chafing damage.
Connect the other cables to the new cable.
Fit the other parts which were removed.
