Check if the convertible top operates part way (stops somewhere in the cycle) or if it is not working at all.

Does the convertible top operate part way?

Yes:

Back convertible top using button

Make a new attempt. Operate the convertible top as per AB G1.

Test if the convertible top can be run back with button.

Can you run the convertible top back with button?

Yes:

Try to run back the convertible top using the Volvo Scan Tool (VST).

Can you run the convertible top back using the VST?

Yes:

Read and record Diagnostic Trouble Codes in the order they appear on the display as per AB B1.

Are there any Diagnostic Trouble Codes?

Yes:

Re-calibrate the convertible top as per AB H2.

Diagnostic Trouble Codes

If DTCs still are present after the lock pin has been installed, fault tracing should be performed according to the DTCs posted as per Service Manual (TP 8307201) or VADIS.

Contact your Field Technical Specialist (FTS) or call Tech Hot-Line for further instructions.

These DTCs are not a result of installing the lock pin as described in this Service Bulletin.

Analyze and repair; Diagnostic Trouble Codes information

First see AB I. Soft top functional sequence description

Often general codes will be set. These codes are 120, 121 and 130.

There are some frequently occuring Diagnostic Trouble Codes that often are set, together or alone. All codes will be displayed in the VST in number order and NOT in the order they come up.

Type 1:

Position error on the convertible top.

Frequent DTCs (occuring generally together or alone):

220, 221, 222, 223

311, 312, 315, 316

Frequent DTCs (occuring generally together):

223 and 315

220 and 316

315 alone

316 alone

220, 221 and 311, 312

220, 223 and 315, 316

Or a mix of all of them together.

Type 2:

Communication with surrounding domains.

Frequent DTCs (occuring generally together or alone):

140, 210, 230, 231, 232, 310

Fault tracing, see manual.

Type 3:

Control unit

Frequent DTCs (occuring generally together or alone):

110 and 112

First, recalibrate. If faults still exist, change control unit.

Power supply to the unit

Frequent DTCs (occuring generally together or alone):

150, 160 and 170

Fault tracing, see manual.

Type 4:

Position error, cable connectors, cables and micro switches.

Frequent DTCs (occuring generally together or alone):

211, 212, 213, 214, 215, 216, 217

313, 314, 315, 317, 318, 319, 320

211 (button on dash)

212 alone

213 and 318

214 and 317

215 (two sensors) and 319

216 (two sensors) and 313/314

217 and 320

315 (objects inhibit top)

212 (dirt or other obstruction inhibits function)

Example: Grounding fault, control unit (CCU) fault or battery fault.

Repair the electrical fault, see manual instruction.
